Not really. The science always motivate you, so it is easy to make a decision. To establish in your work; perseverance is the key. To receive specific senior scientific jobs in academia (like lecturer, Assit or Associate professor etc) it may take years to reach that destination.
Hello Ellie, thank you for the question! 🙂 The path to where I am now was full of twists and turns because I had so many interests that took a long time to narrow down. I am glad that I can call myself a PhD student with a focus on Plant Pathology now, and I look forward to the challenges the next stage of my career will throw my way.
To some extent – I worked in research funding in a different area and used these skills to transition to working in physics. I interviewed for the job 3 times so it wasn’t easy to get the job but this paled to the difficulty of trying to follow the scientific discussions once I did!
