      Good question! I think Astronomers say that the Earth was formed about 4.6 billion years ago from the leftover gas from the nebula that made the Sun.

      I will recommend you to watch this part of BBC documentary by Prof Brian Cox.

      You could find the full video from other sources. I still remember myself waiting to see those videos in BBC when it was telecasted few years back.

      Scientists would say through the Big Bang. Those of some religious faiths however promote something called “creationism” – this is the belief that the earth and everything else in the Universe was created by some higher being, a God or Gods.
      In fact belief in one need not preclude belief in the other as many believe if we don’t read the bible and book of Genesis as an accurate record – a God COULD have caused the big bang.
