Great question! The human brain is a very complicated organ that requires a lot of energy to keep running, sleep deprivation disrupts the way brain cells communicate with each other! Brain cells called neurons respond less quickly to visual information (what your eyes send to the brain) and fire a signal that is weaker than usual, plus scientists found that these signals were not switched off as easily (signal lingered for longer than usual).
