  I think the internet has to come close. It has completely changed the way we live our life and allows us to do lots of things which we would be unimaginable without it!
  
  Interestingly, the internet was invented at CERN, the European Centre for Nuclear Physics and received funding from a sister body of mine to develop. Tim Berners-Lee’s original proposal is now in the CERN museum where his boss had written on it “vague, but exciting”!
