The domestication of wheat, first observations of microbes followed by the eventual discovery that these microbes could cause diseases, the discovery of the genomic code and DNA as well as the development of genome sequencing technologies and the mechanisms that can alter DNA (in particular UV and the adaptation of Agrobacterium tumefaciens to work on fungi). As the fungus I study was one of the first to have its genome fully sequenced I have a reference genome to compare my mutants to!
