Hello grew389gap! The main way I look at DNA is through having it sequenced! DNA sequencing is how we work out the order of the nucleotide bases (A, adenine; G, guanine; C, cytosine and T, thymine – that make up the DNA code. This code forms the instructions for telling a cell what to do, when to do something, where to go and what kind of cell to become. Once I know what has changed in the fungal DNA, looking at the ‘original’ and my fungal mutant DNA sequences, I can then try to work out which genes are responsible for how my mutants grow!
